POSOCO Power System Awards

To recognize emerging and innovative research accomplishments in power system and related fields, POSOCO initiated an award scheme, titled “POSOCO Power System Award (PPSA)”, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on annual basis. This is being organized in collaboration of Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT Delhi. FITT functions as its nodal agency to implement the program.

The Award aims to-

  1. Discover innovations in Power System.
  2. Reward excellence in the Power System & related fields.
  3. Motivate students to undertake further research & innovation in the power system.
  4. Collect and disseminate successful technologies for possible industry adoption.

Collaboration and exchange of knowledge between Industry and Academia is of utmost importance for the country’s future. POSOCO, is a knowledge-oriented organization with strong ties to academic institutions. POSOCO, through the platform of PPSA awards, looks to encourage research in the field of Power System, particularly Low Frequency Oscillations and its detection, analysis and mitigation, stability limits, transfer capability assessment for inter-area transfers, transmission pricing, ancillary services, imbalance pricing and Market Auction Design. POSOCO also encourages and supports research in emerging areas like Renewable Energy Integration and Storage, forecasting and balancing and Big Data analytics.

As part of their research, if approached through the Institute, POSOCO would share the data / relevant information with the researchers. Other things being equal, research in the above areas would be suitably considered in the evaluation process.

Award Category & Beneficiaries

The proposed award is set to distinguish two categories of award: Master and Doctoral category. Both these categories will address beneficiaries belonging to these two specific academic qualifications. The faculties can also be a part of the team but their role will be confined as a mentor/guide/adviser to student members.

Every year there will be a certain number of awards for PPSA in Doctoral category and Masters category, details will be available at FITT website along with details of cash prizes.  The prize money will be shared by the student team members only.

Target Institutes & Communication

Participation for this award is open to all the technical institutions offering PG programs  in power system and related fields in India. All submissions pertaining to POSOCO Power System Awards are made to FITT which in turn shortlist candidates and communicate the procedure for each award. The details will be available at FITT website.

Submission for the same generally starts in the month of November/December. Evaluation is held in the month of February/March. The list of shortlisted candidates is notified in the FITT/POSOCO website. FITT also sends notification to all the shortlisted candidates through email.

Eligibility Criteria & Submission Guidelines

In order for a nomination to be qualified for the evaluations, three main eligibility criteria must be fulfilled as follows.

  1. Applications must be relevant to power system and related fields.
  2. Only recently accomplished projects/research work/innovations are eligible for entry.
  3. For Master category, only those who have been awarded degree in the applying year are eligible for participation.
